IRS problem - Get our voice heard!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I have had the same awful experience. IRS treats us like criminals. IRS hates all citizens. We should organize together and find a way to get our voice heard! Is this still America? Why could such bully abusive organization have superpower like secrete police that exists in China or old DDR? Does any congress or president candidate care? The only reason IRS 100K employees could get paid, is because of us - the taxpayers!! We need IRS reform. They intentionally punish the customers so that they could demonstrate enough complains to get more budget. But the problem is not budget cut. I want to hear suggestions.

IRS runaround

I have made several attempts to contact the IRS regarding my tax issues. I have been placed on hold for sometimes up to an hour, then the phone mysteriously hangs up or goes busy. I think it is a travesty that an organization that can seize your bank account and take your money at will can be so blatantly disrespect you and treat you like you stole something. I am a working tax paying member of this city and would like to be addressed by a person, not an automated system. I will make every effort to bring this situation to light. Up to and including contacting the states attorney general. This abuse of power by the IRS must be stopped

I too am at my wits end, I feel like I'm stuck. I consulted at tax attorney because I have no other options and they wanted $5,000 to do what I myself should be able to do through the IRS, even when I call the local office it's a recording, you leave a message, you never get a return call

Guest

We are going through the same situation. Being left on hold 2 hours then the phone hangs up!

We even went to our local office and after waiting 1 hour the first day and 2 the second, we were told we can't see you today! What!? That was told to several people. They told us they have no help and they did not have time for any of us either days.

We have been trying to resolve our issue since February 2015. They keep sending letters to the wrong address, which we told and changed to our correct address twice! Long story short they will take everything you own if you do not pay them their money but when it's time to pay you, your sol. We pay taxes everyday, every week, we very month.

No why is it so hard to give us what we are owed?! Please let me know how to file a complaint.

Dona Yja

Go to IRS.GOV and click on "help and resources" in the top right. Then, in the bottom right of this screen find the "contact us" section and click on "contact your local IRS office." Toward the bottom of that screen click on your state and find a local office closest to you.

Go visit them. Take any bills or letters plus your tax return in question with you and talk to them. Trying to resolve something over the phone is almost useless. As you found out.

Good luck. Sounds like they zapped your bank account or paycheck.

IRS - Impeccable Right to Steal

Very interesting. I am having unbelievable problems, also with a 2011 tax return. In short, the IRS questioned alimony payment deductions I took, since my ex-wife never filed. I sent the proof of payments. I accidentally sent in one for the wrong year, so the IRS said I still owed $252 and I needed to resend everything again. Because of the time and money involved I said over the phone let me just pay that and move on. Soon after I received a tax bill for nearly $4K. I called, they said they had made a mistake, and this was the amount I still owed, and that I would have to reopen the case and start over. So - it has been almost 3 years. I refilled to reopen the case. No response. IRS will not answer phones (google this - the IRS is impossible to reach). I contacted the tax advocacy - they will not answer their phones. Note that I've spend HOURS AND HOURS on hold over the last years, no answer. To make problems worse, I have to file in states as well - they received notification I was being audited by the IRS, and they have demanded $ based on the IRS misrepresentation and irresponsibility and complete mishandling of this case. As of the time of this writing, each year both states and federal withhold refunds saying I am under audit and still owe money. One state has had me make monthly payments to them for back taxes. If the IRS would bother to just look at the paperwork/proof I've sent in, I would receive back nearly $20,000 which I DIRELY need now. I am a retirement age single parent and I just can't believe what the system is doing to me, and apparently many others. Please, please, if anyone finds some method of making headway, please post - Thank You!!

IRS Tax Advocate Personnel Threatened a Senior Citizen/Taxpayer

Today I was THREATENED by an IRS tax advocate. No person in this US should be threatened by anyone especially when that person is representing the IRS as an IRS tax advocate. These are IRS advocates but they do not represent the taxpayers but only represent IRS. They are clearly a smoke screen for IRS.

I was threatened to be turned in for fraud when attempting to turn in an hardship amended 1040 plus two other years original 1040's. The IRS tax advocacy is supposed to help with tax issues. I would like to know who the tax advocates at IRS work for because it seems to not be the taxpayer.

I am a 67 year old woman who has worked for the federal government all my life. i have never been arrested, never done drugs, do not drink. I try to be a law abiding citizen and have always been just a working mom and wife.

Both my parents died within a few months of one another. I then lost three other members of my immediate family, had breast cancer surgery, back surgery and another major surgery all within a period of 12 months. I then went through the probate from *** where we lost everything in attempting to be an administrator of my parents affairs. I got behind in filing taxes due to my health. I was attempting to "catch up" on our federal taxes when I called the 800 IRS number for an answer. Now the people who answer the 800 IRS number are the dumbest people I have ever spoke with in my entire life. These people treat taxpayers like trash after we have waited to talk to them for over 2 hours on the phone and then they still never know the answer to your question. The last 800 call I made was an IRS representative who, without my authorization to do so, contacted a tax advocate on my behalf without telling or asking me. Whenever the tax advocate called me I was surprised but thought they maybe could help me. My parents had no money when they died and after caring for them for two years their care took every single penny my husband and I had saved all our lives. We, at this time, have no heat nor do we have groceries and they are about to turn off our electricity. We are senior citizens with limited income and have never asked for help from anyone in our lives and are staying warm with space heaters and eating whatever we can find for now but running very low on food. I asked the IRS tax advocate for a hardship return monies for our taxes because my husband is diabetic and has heart problems and has had no medication for well over 4 months. The tax advocate then left for 2 weeks after speaking with me and there was no one to help me because it looks as though no one except the advocate who is dealing with your tax return will help you if you have a problem. The taxes were done, finished and faxed to her over two weeks ago. She called me today and told me that I WAS COMMITTING FRAUD????? She then proceeded to tell me that she will disallow my 2011, 2012 and 2013 due to fraud???? Now the reasons she told me were such as, that I could not turn in my business loss because I was self employed???? Then she told me that I cannot get earned income credit for mother and daddy because my parents did not qualify for earned income credit due to their age and that I needed to read the AGE LIMITS for earned income credit???? I have read the requirements and know them well.

She then proceeded on telling me what happens to people who commit fraud? She then goes on to tell me that I cannot collect any refunds due to the care of my parents and any of that care would just be out of our pocket. She then told me that I need to again read the age limits, she then told me that I could not collect monies for the college courses I took online and pretty much called me a liar because of taking college courses due to my age (she was faxed the papers with the school on them). She then told me that I could not get refunds on the first time homebuyer because I did not have the proper Form 5405 but when I looked back in my forms I DID SEND her the proper dated 5405. Then she was also sent a copy of our HUD forms but she stated she did not have those so somewhere around someplace are floating HUD forms with a great deal of personal information included in them. I asked her if she had my HUD papers and she stated NO but those were faxed straight behind my 5405 to her. She then again threatened me with "filing a fraudulent tax return" and how she would turn me in due to papers that were filed with the return showing I was unable to use that particular amount but I did not add those particular amounts in with the net amount due as was easy to see if one would look as the line is "0".

The tax advocate then told me I needed to go to the poor people's CPA and have them do my 1040's and the 1040x!!!??? She asked me why I put figures onto the return when I could not get the money and I told her it was showing the IRS that these amounts were what was available to use in case they might know of a circumstance that I did not in using the figures as that has happened to me before. If so they were not able to be used and would be losses amounts since I could not use them. This tax advocate then told me I should be turned in for filing fraudulent tax returns again, of which I did not do but said she was still thinking about turning me in while shaming me!!!!!. I then asked her "You mean I have to strip my return down to bare skeleton and bones in order to get back my money since our itemized was larger than our gross income? She stated that this is definitely what I would have to do. She informed me that I am ineligible to file my business expense/loss because I made no money in my business????? I told her I would have made money if not having to care for two dying parents but she said in order to file a business expense I have to show I made money??????? She then told me to fix my returns with a poor mans CPA and that I needed to find one close to where I lived. She then told me to do my returns AGAIN and turn them in whenever I have time to do it????? NOW she full well knows we have no food, no heat and this is a hardship tax return. She must have spent 5-10 minutes "shaming" me on the phone?????? Most other people have their kids to go for help. My husband and I have no kids to help us.

Now the IRS phone representatives informed me that I would not be getting the refund they have had since September. Not to expect anything from it is what they have said but we have received no letter and it looks as though an advocate will not help me find out about it all. The IRS kept the money on one year tax refund because it was a couple months too late so they kept the $8,000. That was return was from when Hurricane Ike destroyed our home. Now in the US Treasury so we have paid our fair share of taxes from that return monies being kept.

Whenever you look online there is no number to call and report an IRS tax advocate in to so it looks as if they do no wrong since there is no number to call to report them. Are these people really tax advocates because it is my understanding after 67 years that advocates are supposed to help a person!!! Not so with the IRS tax advocates!!

I am pleading with anyone who reads this DO NOT TO CALL THE IRS TAX ADVOCACY and to clearly watch out whenever you call the IRS 800 number line because those IRS operators/representatives will turn you and your tax information into a IRS tax advocate without your permission or your knowing what they have done until a tax advocate calls you on the phone and they would not tell me then without me fishing the information out of them.

I have never been treated so horrible in my entire life know by any entity of the federal government. This taxpayer advocacy woman plain and simply threatened me. Nothing else to call it except a threat. She totally manipulated the phone call by not allowing me to speak nor would she admit she was wrong about anything she had called me on. My husband and I try to live right and do other people the right way and have never committed fraud and would never think of nor know how or would want to commit fraud to IRS or anyone else. So now after I filed hardship for our tax return monies well over 2 months ago it seems as if no person at IRS advocacy is willing to help me since I am not allowed to speak to anyone else except the same advocate who is *** bent over the fraud thing. We will be losing our home soon and will be out of food sooner if we even make it that long as we are freezing now. The IRS seems not to want to help me in any way whatsoever in any regard in this matter. The only thing left for me to do is try to go congressional against the IRS tax advocate. I all honesty it seems as shame to have to go this route. The IRS has many good people who work there and ones who are extremely competent in their jobs. For any advocacy group to destroy their reputation when it is already "under scrutiny" seems such a waste.

I pray that someone, the proper person in the IRS advocacy office or in IRS will see this and pray they will help me out in this matter so we can get our money as the IRS tax advocate person made me take away any/all our credits when she made me do the returns over again and leave out all the credits.

My 8000 refund has been on hold because of a 280 dollar discrepancy. I have found out where the 280 came from and now I can't get anyone to talk to about it. The advocate will not return calls.

Contact your congressman. If I want to talk to a rude person, I will contact the IRS directly. The advocate service is supposed to help you, not act like the IRS reps.

Guest

i tried talking to one of these "God complex" power hungry heathens and was very rudely spoke to. I asked a simple question in a calm voice and she blew up on me and said since i want to be nasty she wouldn't help me, then hung up on me.

I sat on the phone trying to call back to file a complaint on her and after another 15 minutes it picked up and then i was hung up on again. Very rude and unprofessional and a complete waste of 40 minutes of my life!

Guest

They treated me horribly as well. I called the IRS integrity office twice to report the problems I was having with first the IRS & then the advocacy people but they won't return my calls.

I've sent a letter to my representative. We'll see if that'll do any good, but somehow I doubt it.

Guest

You are absolutely right. They are a joke and ate used by the IRS to strong arm taxpayers.

Guest

After reading your review i know everything you stated is completely exaggerated. The taxpayer advocate service is great!

Anytime the IRS refers you over to them they go over that you will be contacted by a case advocate etc. They just dont refer you over to them. Secondly, Tas cannot make determination. Regarding your eic you may want to re-read the IRC or refer to pub 17.

I hope your issues were resolved. You should be ashamed of yourself for trying to tarnish the reputation of the taxpayer advocate service.

Rec'd a letter from IRS, stating they needed proof of who I was. Went online and couldn't answer the posed questions, then tried to call, and was kept waiting for 2hrs, to be told that I had to appear in person. I went in person, and was told to wait outside, I waited 2 hrs, and nobody came. They owe me 700.00, which I will probably not get. They have very poor customer service.

Irs Online Tax Filing Review from Mountain View, California

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
It's a travesty taxpayers are at the mercy of these clowns. After this year, I will not waste my time with the IRS or any of their online "services" again. It's apparently too easy to create misery if you make an error using them as I suspect is the culprit of the absurd delay of my refund. Entering wrong numbers appears to cause them to believe your identity is being compromised and they'll take their sweet time with your refund. I sent my return in on tax day, and in an attempt to find out what the holdup was about a month later, I'm guessing I made an error using their services. Nearly six months later and as many hours wasted on the phone with their inept customer service, I still haven't received my refund. What's worse is in the four times I called, I got a different story each time. When that happens, you know you're dealing with an unorganized outfit. I'd advise staying clear of these idiots as much as possible. If you're receiving an abnormal wait time for a return, refrain from either calling in or using any of their online services except perhaps filing. Very disappoiting there's little the taxpayer can do against these wolves.

Courtesy Disconnect

Called the IRS. Got transferred twice when neither of the two departments (examination or collections) could help with the situation. Finally transferred to accounts management, but was disconnected after waiting 30 min. I was on hold most of the time, the total duration of the phone call was 2 hours and 36 minutes! This is ridiculous and unfair. I get that the IRS is swamped but they should hire more people and get rid of this courtesy disconnect issue. Livid!!

It's a shame how when I call the IRS I can't even get someone to pick up a phone. I tried calling numerous times during hours and I keep getting the message that there is no one to help for the option that I pick. Newsflash. Every option that I do pick is get the same response and then the phone disconnects on me. I had to file an amended tax return due to someone claiming my kids that aren't even authorized and get turned down because they need a form 8962 filled out. This form has nothing to do with why I am filing an amended return. This is ridiculous with this place but god help if you owe money they don't need to show any proof or anything. Now I see why a lot of people don't even bother filing taxes anymore.

The IRS has been turned into a national disgrace by Obama and the Dems turning it into a spy and harrassment agency to make life miserable for his political opponents. End the IRS.

IRS are cowards and allow scams

I received a questionable phone message claiming I owed the IRS money. When I attempted to find out if this compliant was real through the tax advocate, I got the IRS doesn't do that and was refused to even look at my case. The fact the IRS allows its employees to not give names or ID's, allows them to refuse customers a supervisor though they refuse to answer questions, pouts people on lenghty holds and threatens people, even though the claim is not real shows a total lack of respect for consumers and a strong support of scammers, when you have to fill out several confusing forms to inform them of a problem. When people are only trying to be a good citizen and is further abused by our gov system, it is disgusting. Also, the IRS listed phone numbers for solve problems, no one answered the phones. I currently am assigned to the most rude, short, mean and selfish person I have ever dealt with in my life as my taxpayer advocate. I don't think she cares about my problem or is doing any of the things she is supposed to do to help me.

I tried to get assigned another caseworker but of course they say they can't do that. I also called and spoke to her manager and explained in detail each phone call that I have had with this monster and she neither apologized nor acted as if she cared either way how this woman was treating me but only kept asking me did I do what the lady told me to do which I DID. And then she lied to me and told me she would call me right back and that was two days ago.

Some bumped up office they are running here in Atlanta, GA. I don't know if I'll ever get any help from these people.

Runaround circus act

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Had I known the trouble possibly trying to file by phone would cause, I'd have never tried. To make a long story short, my attempt filing by phone is what likely caused these *** to believe somebody else tried filing for me. I didn't complete the process and decided to send my return in. Never have I had to wait more than three to four weeks to receive my check, but near May's end, I was curious to know why I'd yet to receive my refund. I tried using their 'Where's My Refund' program as well as trying to get them on the phone, however neither could provide me with any info. It took me three phone calls (about four hours wasted with two of the three having over an hour's wait to talk to somebody), and three letters (two 4883) before I was able to hear them say that I'd been verified after my first phone call and that it'd be APPROXIMATELY six weeks before I'd get my check. That must not have been true since just days after both times I talked to somebody, I received both a 5071 and another 4883 letter. It was the second call where the guy told me my identity had been stolen since somebody tried filing twice, once by phone and by mail. I told the guy that I was likely the one who tried filing by phone, but that didn't make any difference. He told me I'd called four weeks ago, but after two more, I should expect to see check in mid-July. Come early July, I got my second 4883 letter, causing me to get on the phone one last time to see what the meaning of sending me another letter was. This lady said my check had been sent to the processing center a while back, I'd been verified after the first call, but they had no idea why I received two of those letters. That call was the only one that didn't last over an hour, ending after 54:00. Well mid-July has now turned to mid-August and I've yet to receive what I was supposed to by now. I've dealt with some bad customer service before and I'd have to say the IRS is right up there with the worst and nothing short of a circus act. Over an hour's wait to talk to somebody for 10 minutes? I've seen nothing to convince me the IRS isn't as confused, and as unorganized as any of the awful companies I've ever had the misery of being involved with. I'd have to say the less you have to deal with these jokers, the better you'll be. I'm done using their worthless online services and trying to get hold of anybody over there, too. These clowns have certainly made this summer memorable, and not in a good way.

As if getting your taxes filed by a fraudulent *** isn't bad enough, I FINALLY get a letter telling me to use their id verify site or call the number. The ID verify started asking me questions about my ex- brother in law I never met because he was in the military when I was married to his brother.

WHAT?! So I call in and the number keeps hanging up on me. I just want my refund. Glad to know they're wasting so much of our money on one more non-working system that is killing us.

I have already worked hard for the money they took. I shouldn't have to waste more time on this.

I would like to live my life. What is important is that they are protecting my money from me, I guess.
